One of the best things about moving to Edinburgh is that there are so many places to choose from when going out for food. I happened to stumble across The Pantry on Instagram and I was sold straight away when I saw all the pictures of the poached egg dishes (I’m a sucker for a good poached egg).
I private messaged them on Instagram to query what low FODMAP dishes they have on offer and I got a really quick and helpful response. I was advised that all of the smashed avocado dishes could be done on gluten free bread and are made without garlic and onions. ‘Sunshine on Stockbridge’ was also suitable with gluten free bread, the ‘LA Eggs’ were suitable with tomato and not tomato salsa. All sandwiches, all benedicts and morning rolls too. So as you can imagine, I was so excited to head along with all that choice.
My friend and I arrived on a Saturday lunch time and the place was very busy but it had a great atmosphere. We were both very hungry and with there being so many options, it took us ages to decide – apologies to the staff! I eventually opted for the benedicts with hot smoked salmon on gluten free bread and my friend opted for the LA Eggs with prosciutto ham as an add on.
Both meals arrived pretty quickly and the presentation was very impressive, the food was so delicious and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection!! My friend was delighted with her LA Eggs too. We wanted to finish our meal off with something sweet and the cakes looked stunning but unfortunately for me there wasn’t any options. The staff didn’t seem to know if one of the cakes was gluten free or not, so I decided not to risk it. But my friend really seemed to enjoy hers.
We both really enjoyed our trip to The Pantry and the delicious brunch satisfied our hungry stomachs. I was a little disappointed over the uncertainty in the gluten free cake options, however it wouldn’t stop me from visiting again. The pantry had a great buzz about it and was full to the brim – this speaks volumes!
