My Favourite Free From Cafe’s Edinburgh
The low FODMAP diet buzzword hasn’t quite hit the streets of Edinburgh yet. But I’ve made it my mission to try out some cafe’s within Edinburgh to see how accommodating they are with my awkward dietary requirements. I do find Edinburgh a very accommodating city when it comes to free from food, and there’s so much choice. So I decided to write my own “free from” guide to some of Edinburgh’s cafe’s in the hope that it helps others out. Let’s get started…
1. Urban Angel
I think Urban Angel was one of my first spots I headed to when I initially moved to Edinburgh. It’s a cute and cosy little cafe which is always buzzing and the service is always pretty quick too. Many of their menu items can be adapted to suit your diet. Their smoothies are always super yummy too and are made to order, so can also be adapted. A very reasonable priced little spot in the centre of Edinburgh.
2. The Pantry
I’ve been here quite a few times now and they have also just opened a new place right at the shore (I can’t wait to try!). It’s one of my faves. The first time I planned on going here, I messaged them ahead of visiting to and requested which items didn’t contain garlic and onions and they were very helpful. I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad brunch/lunch from the Pantry. I also attended a wedding recently, they were the caterers and even made me a special meal to meet my dietary requirements.
3. Tupiniquim Brasil Crepes
These guys make awesome gluten free crepes in a little police box. They make both sweet and savoury crepes and they are delicious. The crepes are all made with naturally gluten free flours and can be made with almond milk at your request. As they are made to order you can pick and choose your toppings.
4. Hula Juice Bar
This place is much more that a juice bar. It is a gorgeous, vibrant cafe with a huge range of healthy food, with lots of free from options. It’s a bustling little place, so you may have to wait for a table. The menu is a good size and the ‘free from’ options are clearly labelled on the menu too. I’ve been here a few time and have never been disappointed.
5. Sugar Daddy’s
This 100% gluten free bakery is an awesome little place based near Canonmills. They are a bakery takeaway with dairy free, egg free, nut free, soy free and vegan options too. With SO much choice, I’ve never left empty handed or disappointed here. If you’re on your first trip to Edinburgh. I would highly recommend you don’t miss this place out.
6. The Roseleaf
Based at the Shore, the Roseleaf is a quirky and cosy wee bar cafe. It’s always busy and buzzing in here and I know why. They are super accommodating with clearly labelled menu’s and the staff are always on hand to help with any dietary requirements you may have. I love the atmosphere in this place and the food is super good too.
These are just a small selection of places that are accommodating for dietary requirements in Edinburgh. There are LOTS more. It looks like I better get out and try some more…
