Why Autumn is the best season to have IBS

Let’s be honest, there’s no good season to have IBS. BUT, I’m going to try and turn a negative into a positive and embrace the weather getting colder. Autumn is my favourite time of year. It’s just SO pretty and I personally find it the most IBS friendly season. Here’s why…

1. Baggy, comfortable clothes all day, everyday

I love autumn winter fashion. Mostly because it involved baggy, cosy clothing. But it also means you can cover up that swollen tum and wear lose fitting IBS friendly clothes. I’m happiest wearing a dress with cosy tights and I find tights don’t make my tum feel uncomfortable.

2. Cup of teas are never frowned upon when it’s cold

I’m a huge fan of herbal teas and I find them so soothing on my IBS. When autumn arrives, it means I can drink them all day, without getting funny looks! I recently reviewed The FODMAP Friendly Tea Co and they are perfect for a flare. Although I do tend to start every day with a cup of peppermint tea.

3. Nights in are much more acceptable

Don’t get me wrong I love a night in and a catch up with friends. But it’s much easier to arrange a night in when you suffer with IBS (i.e. no nasty public toilets). Autumn is perfect for this, as everyone else has the same idea. Well my friends do! Nothing beats a cosy catch up without the worry of scoping out every toilet on your night out.

4. Prioritising pyjama and hot water bottle time

Does anyone else get straight home from work and throw on their comfiest pyjamas? If not, you definitely should. Again, this is so much more acceptable once the weather gets colder. Pair this with a Yuyu water bottle and you’re onto a winner! It’s honestly the best.

5. Soup, soup and more soup!

It’s just too hot for soup in the summer, yes even in Scotland! I love soup as I find it pretty easy to digest, especially when it’s blended down. It’s so comforting on a cold day. That reminds me, I need to get creating an IBS friendly soup recipe for the blog!

Do you have a favourite season? I do love summer but I find the heat a little but too uncomfortable on my tum.

I agree with all of these! I follow fodmap as best I can, but it’s so much easier in the colder months 😊

Isn’t it just. Slow cookers are the best for throwing all the ingredients into a pot too!xx
